Sublimation t-shirt printing is a method of transferring colorful and intricate designs onto specially coated polyester fabrics. Here’s how it works:
1. Design Creation: A digital design is created on a computer, typically using specialized software.
2. Printing: The design is printed onto a sublimation transfer paper using sublimation ink. Sublimation ink is unique because it can change from a solid to a gas without passing through a liquid phase.
3. Heat Transfer: The printed transfer paper is placed on top of a white polyester t-shirt or fabric. Heat and pressure are applied using a heat press machine.
4. Sublimation Process: Under the heat and pressure, the sublimation ink on the paper turns into a gas and penetrates the polyester fibers of the fabric. As it cools, it solidifies, permanently bonding with the fabric.
The result is a vibrant, high-resolution, and durable print that won’t fade, crack, or peel easily. Sublimation printing is often used for custom and all-over printed t-shirts, sportswear, and promotional items because it allows for full-color and complex designs with excellent color retention. However, it’s important to note that sublimation works best on 100% polyester or polyester-blend fabrics, as it relies on the ink bonding with the polyester fibers.
Decoration on the jersey will not crack, peel or fade over time. The fabric maintains its stretch and wicking capabilities resulting in a better performing jersey. Sublimation is a four colour process allowing for the printing of complicated logos and multi-colour team names and player numbers.
